Think Positive- Be Positive

I recently had quite a few people ask me about my journey out to Dubai. So I thought it would make sense to use it as my ‘subject’ in my next Vlog and in my blog.

So let me take you to where it all began back to December 2016….

I was working as a business development manager for a new skin care brand (I wont name names) and to all my family and friends it seemed like I had finally made it, earning a very large salary and driving a BMW. Far from it!

There was a major thing missing, that we all look for in life…. Happiness.

For me having a nice car and a well paid salary didn’t cut the mustard and it didn’t give me fulfilment. I hope this doesn’t sound like I was ungrateful, this job just wasn’t for me and I learnt that, what I actually wanted was to feel happy in myself. Being in the beauty industry you are surrounded by beautiful people but you can also meet people that will be fake and just out for themselves. I made a promise to myself this year (my 30th) to cut ties and contact with anyone that didn’t bring the best out in me. When I did this it felt so good and I felt that I was back on track and ready for bigger and better things.

The Job hunt– I needed to be in different surroundings and meet different people. Most importantly I wanted to feel the sun on my skin and the sand in between my toes. I started looking at positions in the Caribbean as I looked at working on Necker island  as a therapist for a girl I knew. Unfortunately the positon became unavailable as the girl that was leaving decided to stay. I had many interviews with lots of different places Greece, France, Italy, Dubai (for another positon) but none of them stood out or made me feel excited. Finally I receive a call for a spa manager role to set up and run a chain is different beauty concepts- Now your talking!

I really wanted this position so much that I started doing my affirmations (check out the link if you don’t know what they are) I would do them consciously and unconsciously and then I received a WhatsApp confirmation that I got the job. I was over the moon and couldn’t contain my excitement so called my favourite person in the world, my mum.

In the final weeks leading up to moving some of my friends and some family were telling me ‘oh you wont be able to drink’ and ‘no public nudity and you will get arrested if you are’ (also for those that don’t know me I don’t streak in public in the UK either)  these comments made me angry and frustrated. I ignored them, they were ignorant and had just been based on ‘what they heard’ and not on actual experiences as they haven’t been here to be entitled to make a comment!

Since I have been here my attitude is more positive than before and I have met mainly positive people!

If you have something that you have always wanted to do and have been too scared to do it. Step out of your comfort zone and go for it, you don’t want to wake up old and grey and full of regret.

Eye patches and Charcoal mask review

Hello All!

There has been so many posts on social media of the charcoal mask and I wanted to see what the fuss was about..

Having only used spa or professional medical products, I always turned my nose up at high street brands and especially cheep products because I’ve always thought they are  cheep for a reason. I’m conscious of ingredients they put in the products so I managed to find a clean low price brand in Boots today.

Product no 1- Yes To Cucumber  2 step eye mask- No Paraben, SLS or silicones (£4.99)

This must be a fairly good quality product then?  Nope not at all! It didn’t have any effect and I also struggled to even put it on. Packaging also a nightmare to open not easy at all so I gave this product 2 out of 10. I was disappointed that it didn’t feel like jelly

Product no 2- Yes To Tomatoes– 2 step mask- No Paraben, SLS or silicones  (£4.99)

Once again doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients  and is 95% natural. I also found this hard to open and just a really odd product in general. I was expecting it to be a rubber tight mask but it didn’t stay on very well and had no impact on my blackhead or pores at all! Also going to give this a 2 out of 10.

The ultimate skin care Basics

As I’ve been in the skin care industry and have been  educated in skin for over thirteen years. It was important for me to talk through a step by step to beautiful skin.

Step 1- Cleanse, not with face wipes or soap!

Step 2- Serum- This sinks in deeper and will give you the best result for your skin and will work better as a treatment for a specific concern.

Step 3- Moisturise- Day cream with SPF and night cream.

Check out my video on this blog,

I welcome all comments and questions as I will be happy to help. I suffered with acne and I know how hard it is and would love to help anyone who might be in the same situation or if you know someone who suffers with any skin issues. Please share my blog and YouTube posts and will plan to do a skin care Q&A video once I have a few questions.

Feel like royalty in the Royal Crescent

Have you ever wanted to visit one of the most famous hotels in the UK and perhaps the world?

At the Royal Crescent you will certainly get your moneys worth! Ok its not cheap by any means and you would need an excuse like a birthday or anniversary room rates start at £360+ a night and that would be a classic room and really if you are going to stay there I would suggest a bigger room that you can enjoy.

When you arrive at the hotel and have planned valet parking you will be greeted by the concierge who will know your name as they like to give the personal touch. They will ask for your car reg number when you make your booking, they are not psychic haha. once you have arrived you will be shown around the hotel and then to your room and left to your own devices. You could easily spend your entire weekend in the hotel and chilling out in the spa but there are many places to explore in bath. Such delights as:

Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, Open top bus (Weather depending) , fudge kitchen

One of the main things that everyone wants to do when they visit Bath is to go to Thermae Bath Spa. Its a great spa, it has a large indoor pool on the lower ground floor, a restaurant on the first floor, Wellness suite on the second floor and a open air rooftop pool on the third floor. They also have treatments suites on the lower, first and second floor. They use treatment brands Aromatherapy Associates and Pevonia this place really is fantastic and worth a visit but I will worn you it gets ridiculously busy and at times you will feel like a sardine. On weekends they have people lining up and they have signs that say you have a two hour wait!.. There’s me thinking that you would only find this at Alton towers.

This is the most frustrating thing as you can’t book for just a spa session. I would suggest going in the week and in the evening, bonfire night is a great night as you can look at the fireworks from the roof top pool. I would go but please be warned that you might have to wait.

One of the main things that I love about Bath is the food and the independent restaurants there are over 400 restaurants in this small city but here are my favourites:

Martini’s is a fab Italian and has an amazing atmosphere and everyone that works there is Italian the food is amazing and drinks are great too. This is probably one of my favourite restaurants and you will know why when you go there.

Acorn vegetarian is somewhere I visited recently and it was stunning! my friend and I decided to go all out with three courses as I was told that the portions are quite small. We had matching wine with each course and it was total perfection! I would suggest this place even if you are not a vegetarian as you will be surprised with how imaginative they are with the dishes they make.

See pictures that I took below.

On the opposite end of the spectrum if you are a lover of steak then you really must try Hudson bar and Grill. This is where I had the best steak that I have ever tried in my entire life you will certainly not be disappointed. Would suggest going for a special occasion her as its quite pricey and you definitely need to book if you are going to go on a weekend.

If you have any more questions on Bath and places to visit please comment below and I will be happy to help and make some suggestions.

My first blog and the ‘firsts’

Trying to go more with the trends and put myself out there more so I made a promise to myself that I will just go for it…. no matter how silly or stupid I  might feel or be made to feel. I try to live by the motto “No Regrets” maybe I should have it tattooed? Hence writing this blog.

I turned 30 in February and this year and  I made some big decisions that will change my life quite dramatically.

I was working in a job that I really started to hate and it was making me feel deflated and anxious all the time and even over the Christmas break. I then decided a change needs to happen and a big one at that. I handed my notice in and made the decision to work overseas and use it as an opportunity to ‘find myself’ and cheesy as that sounds. So within a week the huge weight and black cloud started to lift off my shoulders. I made the mature decision to find a temporary position whilst I look for a role as I knew it would take some time and I wasn’t in any real hurry to jump ship straight away.

I called a good friend of mine who I actually saw a week before  I had finished work late, I was really stressed but tried to hide it all by making out that  it was all fine and dandy. I think she knew I wasn’t happy and was not surprized when I asked for a therapist position in her spa. Phew! she could accommodate a position for me so I was delighted and since I have been working there it has made it clear that I love the beauty industry and has given me my passion back.

Why will my life change?

A few weeks ago I was offered a position to run a trendy day spa in Dubai!

This will be the first time I have lived and worked in another country and also the first time that I have been to Dubai and the Middle East.

I am now in the process of organising my medical and visa and due to leave mid to end of May. I’m also trying to spend as much time with family and close friends before I depart but as you would imagine a lot of them will be visiting me soon.

Fresh Insight from A Beauty Insider

Since finishing my GCSE’s I fell into a bit of a cross roads in deciding what career path I should take. My ‘Plan’ was to stay in education and complete A levels in social care and physiology. However after speaking to a career adviser, ‘Beauty Therapy’ seemed like the right match for me. I signed up for the three year course on a bit of a whim only to find it was the best decision I’ve ever made!

Twelve years later here I am…

I have to say that my passion lies in skin care as I’ve had many issues with my skin including horrendous acne and eczema. Having studied the skin when doing my course it really opened my eyes to all various treatments/ brands that do exactly what they say on the bottle.

We’ve all tried our own home-made remedies like toothpaste on your breakouts, etc..

Does it really work?

Yes, it has an anti- inflammatory effect on the spots but doesn’t stop them from re-appearing. I would suggest looking at the cause of the problem i.e: diet, stress, poor skin care, and heavy makeup-my pet hate: you use heavy makeup to hide the problem but you are not treating, because in some cases this will cause congestion (blackheads) and MORE breakouts.

In my opinion its a vicious circle…but, you don’t need to worry, as there are solutions that have been created by masters of science.

Cleanse & Remove Makeup – this is VERY important. You need to have a clean canvas for all serums and creams to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin. Try Cleansing Water by Caudalie.

Tone – Often a product missed out by many due to high amounts of chemicals added to ‘high street’ brands. They tend to have alcohol as the first ingredient…why??? All this does to the skin is strip it of its natural oils. Please don’t try this at home! Check this toner out: Moisturizing Toner by Caudalie.

Exfoliate – Another product missed. Most of my clients say it’s because they don’t have enough time. Why not mix with your cleanser once or twice a week they you have killed two birds with one stone. This makes a massive difference to the skin as it removes all the dead skin cells and accelerates your serum and moisturizer. One of my favorite ways to exfoliate: Gentle Buffing Cream and Instant Foaming Cleanser by Caudalie.

Mask – Often looked as being quite old fashioned and something we only do when we have ‘pamper sessions’ with friends. Hands down, its the most effective part of your skin care routine and a big obsession of mine as I love the wow effect they give to the skin, and don’t just use the same one all over your face. You can Treat various areas of concern with different masks, as a spa therapist would, but right in the luxury of your own home. I generally tend to sleep with them on for the best results. Four I really like are from Caudalie: Moisturizing Cream Mask, Purifying Mask, Glycolic Peel Mask, and the new Instant Detox Mask.

Eyes – Always the first place to age, treat with caution as its the thinnest part of skin on the face. Depending on your concern if you have puffiness always opt for an eye serum and for hydratation and lines go with a cream. Never use your skin moisturiser over your eye area! You need to use a specific eye product as the formulations are different. So, for the best of the best when it comes to your delicate eyes, try: Premier Cru Eye Cream from Caudalie.

Serum/Moisturizer – to put it simply you have two layers to your skin, the top layer (Epidermis) and bottom layer (Dermis) your serum will absorb into the deep dermal layer and and your moisturizer will work on the surface epidermal layer. Basically this is your skins shampoo and conditioner, you wouldn’t shampoo your hair without conditioning it, would you? To finish your at home daily treatment, check out: Polyphenol C-15 Serum (which is an anti-wrinkle defense serum) or Premier Cru The Elixir both from Caudalie.

If  you stick with these basics you can’t go wrong!

Until next time,

Xoxo Bex
